SmartFan Cirrus-2 is an upgrade to its predecessor, SmartFan Cirrus. Cirrus-2 is a compact, microprocessor based DC fan speed control and alarm designed for the electronics, industrial and HVAC control markets. Most fan manufacturers offer DC fans with built-in speed control based on an open collector or voltage type PWM control input. Cirrus-2 offers an off-the-shelf, user programmable interface for these fans. Enhancements provided by Cirrus-2 include powering 12 VDC fans in addition to 24 and 48 VDC, increased PWM control range to 20 kHz, easier programming using the Navigator Menu Driven Programmer and reduced pricing.

Cirrus-2 can control and monitor one or two DC fans used in applications including: file servers, ATE products, storage subsystems, medical devices, telecommunications equipment and HVAC systems. Cirrus-2 regulates fan speed from a control signal (0-20 mA, 0-10 VDC), remote transducer or thermistor. Cirrus-2 can be configured with specialized fan speed control settings including idle speed, full speed, fan off and alarm trip points. An alarm can indicate fan failure, over temperature or loss of control signal input. Operating parameters are programmed using a Navigator SmartFan Programmer or can be configured at the factory to meet your requirements. ($32.20 ea/200 - available now). Navigator PRG00-F is a hand held, menu driven programmer used to configure compatible SmartFan products. Equipped with a two by sixteen backlit LCD display and four navigation keys, Navigator guides the user through the programming of product parameters with a focus on intuitive ease of use. Power is derived from the connected product eliminating the need for power adapters or batteries. Expansion interfaces and an upgrade port allow the Navigator to be updated for future product releases and increased versatility. Automatic detection customizes the menu structure for each product connected. Memory functions allow easy copying of product profiles from one product to another as well as storage of product profiles for future use. Navigator can be purchased for $290.00 or rented for $50./month.

The LabStrobe stroboscope is used to measure the speed of rotation or frequency of vibration of a fan, motor, or other mechanical part or system. SmartFan Aurora is a microprocessor based DC motor speed control that offers an off-the-shelf OEM solution for analog control of DC motors, fans, and pumps for HVAC, electronic and industrial control applications. Aurora accepts analog control signals (0-5V, 0-10V, 0-20mA, potentiometer) and adjusts the voltage to the motor from 0% - 100% output voltage. Voltage to the motor is varied using a buck control circuit that operates at a high frequency to achieve maximum power efficiency at minimum size.
Aurora operates from an AC (12-48V) or DC (10-72V) power source and can control 12, 24 or 48 VDC motors with a current rating up to 6 Amps. A filtered DC output provides a true 1.0 form factor resulting in a quieter, cooler running motor. Power efficiency is typically greater than 90% and full analog feedback provides closed loop regulation. ($76.00 ea/200 – available now). - SmartFan Stratus has been very successful in the OEM marketplace since product introduction in 2006. In response to customer feedback and internal VFD design innovations, CRI will release our SmartFan Stratus II variable frequency drive in January 2010.
SmartFan Stratus II is a microprocessor based variable frequency drive designed for OEM applications in HVAC, electronic and industrial control markets. Stratus II is designed to control single and three-phase fans, motors and pumps in AC motor speed control applications including environmental control (temperature, humidity, pressure, flow), clean room pressurization, equipment cooling, exhaust ventilation and heating/air conditioning systems.
Design enhancements incorporated into the SmartFan Stratus II include:
- UL Recognition
- Increased capacitance for hi-torque applications
- Allows analog control and Modbus functionality at the same time
- Improved response time (control signal input – output regulation)
- Improved control from potentiometer input
- USB interface
On-board programming allows easy set-up for motor control based on an analog control input. For added versatility, Stratus II can be programmed and controlled using ModBus or USB interfaces.
